For Clinicians
Today, in America, as many as one million people suffer from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Until a cure is found, physicians must rely on medications to control IBD's often painfully crippling symptoms.

The Foundation for Clinical Research in IBD is striving to enhance the array of effective medications, as we encourage young gastroenterologists to pursue clinical careers in IBD and educate patients.

Clinical Research
The Foundation's Clinical Research program:
  • Supports clinical projects that may have major implications in the management of patients with IBD.
  • Encourages innovative concepts that may result in the initiation of clinical studies for the treatment of IBD.
  • Supports clinical therapeutic trials in patients with IBD — either Crohn's disease and/or ulcerative colitis — and their complications.

Senior Clinical Fellowships
It is equally critical that we foster the careers of young gastroenterologists. Through the Foundation's Senior Clinical Fellowships, we provide grants that enable junior GI faculty and third-year GI fellows.
  • To receive comprehensive training in diagnosing and treating IBD.
  • To begin their studies as clinical researchers in the field of IBD.

Patient Education
Patients and their families need the most current information about IBD and its treatment, so they can make informed choices about their medical care.

  • The Foundation sponsors patient education through its seminar, "Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Disease." To date, the seminar has been held in more than 40 cities throughout the U.S.

Call To Action
IBD inflicts tremendous hardships on the lives of patients and their families. Each of us can play a critical role in improving their lives. We urge...

  • Gastroenterologists to learn how they can participate in clinical trials and apply for clinical research grants.
  • Junior GI faculty and third-year fellows in gastroenterology to advance their knowledge of IBD by applying to the Foundation for a fourth-year senior clinical fellowship.
  • Patients and families to learn as much as they can about IBD and current treatment options.
  • Everyone to join our individual and corporate sponsors in contributing to the work of the Foundation.
